THE PRINCIPALS TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

The Sue Garner School of Dance was founded by our respected and experienced accredited teacher, Sue Garner. They teach with the syllabus of the British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA), a teaching method developed with the knowledge of children’s developmental stages. Combining her teacher's knowledge and skill with BTDA’sin put, this allows young dancers to progress at a rate to which their bodies can safely grow and improve. Sue strongly believes that her school provides a welcoming atmosphere that develops self-esteem, confidence and respect for themselves and their peers. Adjacent to this they learn the discipline, etiquette and the joy of dance. She and her staff regularly attend teacher refresher courses to continuously refine and improve their teaching knowledge. Under her directorship, her staff works together to follow carefully planned syllabi in such away that is appropriate for all body types. Although students have different abilities, Sue and her teaching staff focus on individual improvement according to each student’s physical capabilities and learning styles.

I have been at Sue Garner School of Dance for 5 years. During my time at the school, it's helped me gain confidence and helps with my physio to improve my health condition. I've taken part In shows , competitions and exams. Additionally, I attend  scholarship days and performances at the local care home. In recent years, I have also started helping and supporting younger students classes, becoming both independent and a role model for my peers. I've made great friends who help support and encourage me as well as the teachers who continue to push me and strive to do my best. I can't  wait to see where the upcoming years take me, and the opportunities that await me in the school.

SGSD has been an amazing and meaningful part of my life. It is more than just a dance school to me — it is a place where I have grown not only as a dancer, but as a person. Through SGSD, I have learned tap, ballet, acro, modern, and street dance. Each style has challenged me in different ways and helped me develop a strong foundation and a deep love for dance.
I have learned countless techniques across many different styles, and every class has pushed me to improve. With every correction, rehearsal, and performance, I’ve gained confidence, discipline, and determination. Dance at SGSD has taught me how to work hard, believe in myself, and keep going even when things feel difficult.
The teachers, assistants, and helpers at SGSD have made a huge impact on my journey. Each one of them has believed in me and encouraged me to push myself further. Every teacher brings something unique, and I learn something different from each of them. Because of their support and guidance, I truly believe that I can go far in dance and continue growing in my abilities.
SGSD has always felt like my second family. It’s where I’ve found confidence, discovered who I am, and made so many meaningful friendships. The love and support in this studio are truly special. I’ve shared memories here that I will carry with me forever — moments of growth, laughter, challenges, and success.
I am incredibly grateful for everything SGSD has given me. It has shaped me into the dancer I am today and has given me a strong foundation for my future. No matter where my journey takes me, SGSD will always be a part of who I am.

I have been dancing at SGSD for over 10 years with SGSD and it has been a pleasure. Dance has become one of my favourite thing to do and all of the teachers have helped build that. I enjoy taking part in all of the dance styles; ballet, tap, acro, modern, contemporary and street dance. Each lesson is different, very fun and I have made amazing friends that I have grown up with and love so much. A big part of what I love are the many exams, festivals, competitions and annual shows where I can fully perform and show what I have worked hard on in lessons.  I honestly love it so much and without dance my week would be so boring. I would not replace dancing with Sue Garner school of dance with the world.

Sue Garner is an outstanding dance school and I'm so privileged to have grown up around such a lovely and supportive group. I’ve been at this dance school for many years and the friendships, memories and improvements I’ve made on the way have really helped me grow as a person. The teachers at SGSD are so great because they really take their time understanding each child and helping everyone. I wouldn’t be where I am today without these teachers and students being beside me like a family xx

I am Natasha.  I started SGSD at the age of 4. The dance teachers have helped me improve and become more confident in myself and my dancing. When I started, I could barely do a cartwheel, now I can do harder ones. I can’t wait to learn more.

I love dancing at SGSD. The teachers there helped me to learn so many routines and improve my acro skills. I like participating in the competitions but mostly I like dancing up on the stage. It really gives me energy and I can't stop smiling when dancing. SGSD helped me built confidence since I was 4 and I am really proud of myself that I am not shy anymore. I love to socialise with my friends when at classes.

I am Ava, I started SGSD when I was 3. Everybody in the dance school has been extremely helpful and kind, especially the older ones. All of the teachers help us during our work if we find something challenging, making us better in what we do. I have made a lot of friends. I still can’t do the splits but I still practice, and “practice makes progress, not perfect”

I have been dancing with SGSD for nearly 5 years. I started in pink stars, moved to Group 1 and I'm now in group 2!  My favorite thing at dancing is being able to dance with the older groups learning big tricks and performing amazing dances. I learn Acro, Modern,  Ballet and Tap exams. I do competitions and shows. I have suffered with anxiety since I was small and since starting SGSD I have learnt to control this and my anxiety has eased off. All the teachers are wonderful and I've made many friends.

I’ve been dancing with SGSD for just over a year. Since starting my confidence has increased, I’ve gone from hiding in the back to wanting to be front centre. All the amazing teachers have shown me how to express myself through dance and everyday my passion grows. The motto “ every child matters “ is true as the teachers help all of us and we are like a family, things I could only dream about have become realities and I look forward to progressing even more.
